EPAC Hosts Teachers’ Training Seminar
on STEM Education!
On Saturday the 29th of October 2016, the English Program of Assumption College hosted a Teachers’ Training seminar in room 901 of the AC 2003 Building, on the topic of “STEM Education”.
The seminar was conducted in English, and there were 31 foreign teachers in attendance. The purpose of this seminar was to further develop the teaching skills of our foreign teachers in regard to STEM education. STEM integrates 4 subjects together (S-Science, T-Technology, E-Engineering and M-Mathematics), so that students can apply their knowledge toward solving problems in their study routines. In addition, students will be encouraged to use the skills which we call the “4Cs”, which are Critical Thinking, Communication, Collaboration and Creativity.
For this event, we had an outstanding speaker to lead us: Dr. John R. Stiles, a consultant with the Institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science & Technology (IPST) within the Thai Ministry of Education.
Many of the English Program teachers expressed great enthusiasm for this new area of focus, because this will add practical application as well as a sense of fun, to both Science and Math. Our teachers have already begun thinking about how to integrate STEM into our courses, and we plan to have this new format fully integrated into our curriculum by the start of the 2017 academic year.
